The Recording Academy has announced nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards, marking a landmark moment for African music. Nigerian artists Yemi Alade, Asake, and Tems have secured nominations in the newly created Best African Music Performance category. This category, added to honour the global influence of African music, highlights the growing impact of Afrobeat and other African genres worldwide.

African Talent Shines Across Categories

Beyond the new category, African artists received nominations in multiple genres. Tems is nominated for Best R&B Performance with her track “Burning” and also for Best Global Music Album for Born in the Wild. Rema, the Mavin Records star, was recognised in Best Global Music Album as well, showcasing the versatility and reach of African music across styles.
