Introduction

In an exciting initiative to improve the quality of life for vulnerable and disabled individuals, Woking Borough Council has launched its new Careline Plus service. This program is designed to assist residents in incorporating smart technology into their homes, such as video doorbells, voice-controlled lights, and voice assistants. By providing installation and personalized demonstrations, the council aims to make modern tech more accessible for those who need it most.

Careline Plus: Empowering Through Technology

The Careline Plus service will provide smart devices to residents who may face challenges in day-to-day living, whether due to physical disabilities or social isolation. With devices like video doorbells for added security and voice-activated lights to simplify daily routines, the service offers much-needed assistance. Council staff will also train individuals on how to make the best use of these technologies.

The overarching goal is to ensure that no one in the community is left behind, especially as technology evolves at a rapid pace. According to Ellen Nicholson, Woking Borough Council’s portfolio holder for living well, “Smart technology can be extremely beneficial for our elderly, disabled and vulnerable residents… It can make a massive difference in helping with day-to-day routines.”

Support for Caregivers

In addition to supporting residents directly, Careline Plus is also set to benefit caregivers, enabling them to provide better assistance by utilizing smart home technologies. These devices can simplify caregiving tasks, reduce the need for constant monitoring, and offer peace of mind.

A Step Towards Inclusive Living

This initiative is part of the council’s larger mission to make the town a more inclusive place to live. By tackling the barriers that prevent disabled or elderly individuals from fully embracing technology, Careline Plus is paving the way for smarter, safer, and more independent living for vulnerable citizens.

This initiative represents a significant move toward integrating smart technology with social care, making life easier for those who need support the most. The council’s focus on inclusivity and technological empowerment offers a blueprint for other communities to follow.
