The manager of Ghanaian reggae-dancehall star, Stonebwoy, has accused Akwaaba UK, an event promotion company, of attempting to sabotage the artist’s upcoming UK show.

Stonebwoy’s manager, Chief Stylz during an interview with Hit FM, Ghana said Akwaaba UK scheduled an independence concert for March 8, 2025, the same date earlier announced by their camp in Oct 2024 as the official date for Stonebwoy’s UK tour. However, the CEO of Akwaaba UK, Dennis Taiwah has refuted claims of deliberately working to sabotage the artist’s UK performance.

Stonebwoy is billed to perform at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on March 8 with Fameye and new hiplife sensation AratheJay as guests, while three of Ghana’s biggest promoters in the diaspora, Alordia, Akwaaba UK and West Coast, have partnered for an Independence Day concert headlined by R2Bees with King Paluta and OliveTheBoy as supporting acts. Both venues are about 30 minutes apart.

In response to the accusations, Taiwah said his team had long booked the date before Stonebwoy announced his show. The dispute came to a head during a phone in session on Hit FM, Ghana when both parties were called to clarify the issues.

For the Ghanaian music scene, the controversy comes at a time when artists are increasingly aiming to break into international markets and secure larger platforms. The ongoing feud could set a precedent for future events and raise awareness about the challenges artists face when collaborating with external event organizers.

As the situation develops, both Stonebwoy’s team and Akwaaba UK have indicated that they remain committed to seeing the UK concert take place. However, the tensions have raised concerns about the future of the event. Will Stonebwoy be able to perform as planned, or will the drama continue to overshadow what should have been a celebration of Ghanaian music?
