Nigerian Afrobeats star, Rema has recently opened up about his experience at the 2025 Grammy Awards, where his album HEIS lost the Best Global Music Album category to Matt B and the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Despite the setback, the artist expressed a positive and mature outlook, revealing that he didn’t feel disheartened by the loss.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Rema shared that rather than dwelling on his defeat, he enjoyed watching the other nominees collect their awards. “I was just taking every moment in, celebrating people walking up that stage,” he said. “I had my fingers crossed that I’d walk up the stage too, and when it didn’t happen… it happens.” His perspective reflects a deep sense of humility and resilience, acknowledging that this was not the first time he had been nominated for an award but did not win.

Rema’s response to the Grammys loss showcases a sense of maturity in navigating the highs and lows of fame. While he hoped to take home the trophy, he emphasized that it was all part of the journey. This loss was bittersweet, particularly as other Nigerian artists, including Burna Boy, Asake, and Davido, also went home empty-handed that night. However, the night was not without its victories for Nigeria, as Tems triumphed with the Grammy win for the 2025 Best African Music Performance award, making it her second Grammy win.

Rema’s comments come at a time when Nigerian music continues to grow on the global stage, and although his loss was disappointing, it has only fueled his drive to continue pushing boundaries in music. For the artist, it’s all about cherishing the moments, learning from each experience, and keeping his eyes on the bigger picture of his musical journey.
