Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer, Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, has won the 67th Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance.

Tems earned her second Grammy after her song Love Me JeJe, beat Tomorrow by Yemi Alade, MMS by Asake featuring Wizkid, Sensational by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay, and Higher by Burna Boy and emerged victorious in the Best African Music Performance Category.

Tems during her acceptance speech dedicated her award to God, her mother, and her team, who joined her on stage.

“Dear God, thank you so much for putting me on this stage and bringing me this team,” Tems said.

The Love Me Jeje crooner received three nominations at this year’s Grammys, bringing her career total to eight. She was also nominated for Best Global Music Album (Born in the Wild) and Best R&B Song (Burning), however lost out on these categories.

This latest Grammy achievement further cements Tems’ status as one of Africa’s most celebrated global music icons.
