In a momentous recognition of global musical influence, Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has made it to King Charles III’s exclusive Commonwealth music playlist, curated for the celebration of Commonwealth Day. The British monarch, who is also the Head of the Commonwealth, shared a broad and diverse musical selection in his new Apple Music show, The King’s Music Room.

The playlist includes renowned names such as Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, Grace Jones, and Raye among others, featuring a blend of genres including reggae, disco, and Afrobeats, showcasing artists from across Commonwealth nations. Making its way into the playlist is Davido’s song “Kante,” a collaboration between him and the sensational Fave.

The monarch, in a rare reveal, described the playlist as “the soundtrack of my life,” emphasizing the role music has played in his personal journey.

The program, recorded in the monarch’s Buckingham Palace office, will air in commemoration of Commonwealth Day. King Charles reflected on how music has always been a significant part of his life, offering insight into his personal connection to various musical styles. The program, which will be aired next Monday, gives listeners a rare glimpse into the monarch’s eclectic taste, as he shares songs that have brought him joy.

For Davido, this marks another remarkable milestone in his illustrious career. Known for his hit songs like Fall, If, and FEM, Davido’s recognition by the British monarchy underscores his growing global influence. His participation in this playlist further cements Afrobeats’ place on the international music stage.

As the artist continues to prepare for the release of his upcoming album 5ive in April 2025, which he has described as “my story, my truth, and my growth,” this royal recognition is yet another testament to his rising stature in the global music scene. Fans are also eagerly awaiting the release of his new single, Be There Still, which drops on March 14, promising to bring even more musical magic from this talented artist.

With the global spotlight shining brighter on Afrobeats, Davido’s presence on the Commonwealth playlist represents not only a personal achievement but also a triumph for African music in the international arena.
