Nigerian Afrobeats sensation CKay has officially parted ways with Warner Music South Africa after a three-year collaboration. The split marks a significant turning point in the artist’s career, following a period of remarkable achievements and global recognition.
In November 2020, CKay signed with Warner Music South Africa, transitioning from his previous label, Chocolate City, in a joint venture with Warner Music Group. This move coincided with the release of his debut album, Sad Romance, which featured the international hit “Love Nwantiti.” The track garnered massive success, earning an 8x Platinum certification from the RIAA and surpassing records held by fellow Nigerian artists Wizkid and Rema in the U.S.
A New Chapter
In August 2024, CKay launched Boyfrnd Music Ltd, a music management and publishing company based in Lagos, Nigeria, with an American subsidiary, Boyfrnd Music LLC. The company aims to support artists, songwriters, and producers by ensuring they receive their rightful royalties and providing comprehensive management services. CKay emphasized the importance of a supportive team for every artist, highlighting the company’s commitment to transparency and empowerment.
As CKay moves forward independently, his focus remains on expanding his musical empire through Boyfrnd Music. The company is set to discover, develop, and promote emerging talent, offering a platform for artists to showcase their unique sound and style. CKay’s vision is to create a formidable and transparent environment where artists can thrive creatively while receiving the support they deserve.
