Chrome’s New Proactive Safety Features

Google has rolled out a new safety update for Chrome, designed to take a more proactive stance in protecting users from online threats. The standout feature is an upgraded Safety Check, which now automatically runs in the background to revoke permissions from unused websites, helping users maintain tighter control over their data. Chrome will also flag deceptive notifications, making it easier to identify potentially harmful websites. If a website is found to send abusive notifications, Chrome will revoke its notification permissions to protect users from unnecessary disruptions.

Simplified Privacy Controls and One-Time Permissions

In addition to enhanced protection, Chrome introduces simplified controls for managing website permissions. One of the new features allows users to grant one-time permissions for accessing hardware like cameras or microphones, revoking access immediately after use. This ensures privacy is maintained, even after temporary access is granted, mimicking the one-time permissions system familiar to Android and iOS apps. The update is currently available for Android and Desktop users(blog.google)(Techopedia).

Improved Notification Management

Chrome users will now find it easier to manage website notifications thanks to a new “Unsubscribe” button, which appears within the notification drawer. With a single tap, users can opt-out of future notifications, reducing the volume of unwanted alerts. While this feature is initially exclusive to Pixel devices, Google plans to roll it out to other Android devices in the near future(blog.google)(Techopedia).
