In response to the recent escalation of tensions between Nigerian and South African users on social media, Bolt has taken swift action to address the situation that has disrupted its platform. The feud, which spiraled into a series of retaliatory actions, saw users from both countries engaging in fake ride requests as a form of digital protest.

South Africans initiated the “Request in Nigeria Challenge,” where they would order rides through the Bolt app in Nigeria only to cancel them as soon as the driver arrived. Nigerians quickly retaliated with similar tactics, causing widespread frustration among drivers who were left stranded and out of pocket.

Bolt, in its commitment to maintaining a safe and reliable service for all users, has moved to block the accounts of those involved in the prank war. The company’s Nigeria Country Manager, Yahaya Mohammed, emphasized that the company is fully aware of the impact on its driver-partners and is taking steps to ensure the security and integrity of its platform. Bolt also temporarily restricted cross-country ride requests to prevent further misuse.

Additionally, the ride-hailing giant has reached out to affected drivers, offering support and reassurance that further measures will be implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future. This includes enhanced monitoring of ride requests and stricter penalties for users who engage in such disruptive activities.

Authorities in both countries have also been notified, and discussions are underway to explore further actions against individuals who were involved in these retaliatory actions, particularly those who incited others on social media.

As Bolt continues to take corrective measures, the company remains focused on protecting the livelihoods of its driver-partners while ensuring a seamless experience for users who rely on its services daily.
