Amaarae Makes History as First Ghanaian Artist to Perform at Coachella 2025

American-Ghanaian singer and songwriter Ama Serwah Genfi, professionally known as Amaarae, made history at the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival as the first Ghanaian to deliver a solo performance on the festival’s main lineup.

Performing alongside global artists such as Travis Scott, Post Malone, Megan Thee Stallion, South African sensation Tyla, Ty Dolla Sign, T-Pain, and Nigeria’s Rema, Amaarae’s participation underscores her growing influence in the global music scene. ​

The Sad Girl Luz Money Crooner used the platform to amplify the sounds of Ghanaian music, paid homage to her roots as well as spotlight rising stars in the the Ghanaian music industry including Joey B, Eazzy, Asaaka Boys, and La Meme Gang midway through her performance.

In addition to highlighting her peers, Amaarae also used the moment to debut a new techno-infused track from her forthcoming album ‘Black Star’. The unreleased song cleverly interpolates the chorus of “Deeba,”a beloved Ghanaian classic from the early 2000s.

Amaarae musical journey has been characterized by a unique blend of pop, R&B, Afrobeats, and alté genres, coupled with a fluid representation of gender and sexuality.
