Nigerian Afrobeats artist Runtown has made a remarkable comeback with his latest project, Soundgod Fest Vol IV.
Released on June 27, 2025, this six-track EP marks his first full-length release since 2022’s Signs. The EP explores themes of love, ego, emotional duality, and sonic nostalgia, with every track reflecting Runtown’s evolution as an artist, blending emotional depth with genre-defying sounds.
Soundgod Fest Vol IV opens with “Mood Swings,” a track that captures the unpredictable nature of love. Runtown embraces the complexities of a partner’s ever-shifting energy, delivering a song that dances with chaos and celebrates the layered essence of love.
Then comes “End A Man” presenting a boastfully side of Runtown, where he steps into the booth with confidence, delivering a self-appraising sermon laced with effortless rhythmic flow. This track showcases his ability to blend introspection with assertiveness.
In “Mon Bébé,” Runtown delivers a heartfelt love letter, blending smooth Afro-R&B rhythms with melodic French phrases. The result is a lush, emotionally resonant track that showcases his lyrical finesse and ability to stir deep feelings through music.
Meanwhile, the previously released “Do Me” takes on new meaning within the context of the EP. It reaffirms Runtown’s mastery over both rhythm and mood, balancing precision with subtlety. The song explores themes of vanity, emotional exposure, and the seductive allure of a carefully curated, luxurious lifestyle.
“Dangerous Hearts,” featuring UK singer-producer Mr. Hudson, unfolds like a cinematic soundscape, elegantly sampling Sade’s classic “Sweetest Taboo.” With its refined fusion of nostalgic soul and contemporary flair, the track seamlessly connects different cultures and generations—highlighting Runtown’s expansive musical vision and his effortless ability to navigate global sounds.
Runtown’s commitment to artistic independence has long fueled his fearless experimentation. His music serves as a sonic journal, capturing everything from the vibrant pulse of Lagos to the quiet reflections of global journeys. Soundgod Fest Vol IV stands as a powerful testament to his evolution—seamlessly fusing his Nigerian heritage with international influences to craft a sound that is both distinct and deeply resonant.
