Nigerian Afrobeats singer Reekado Banks has opened up for the first time in detail about his highly publicized fallout with global music icon Wizkid.

In a recent podcast interview, the singer reflected on the infamous 2020 incident during the #EndSARS protests that strained their relationship, and revealed that the two have since reconciled in a surprisingly emotional meeting.

In October 2020, Nigeria was gripped by the nationwide #EndSARS movement, a protest against police brutality and abuse of power. At the height of the unrest, Reekado Banks announced the release of his collaboration with Wizkid titled Omo Olomo. However, the timing struck a nerve.

Wizkid, who had been vocally involved in the protests, responded with a shocking outburst on social media, labeling Reekado a “clout animal” and a “fool” for promoting music during a national crisis. The blunt attack went viral and sparked major conversations across the entertainment industry and among fans.

The single was quietly released without Wizkid’s verse, and neither artist publicly addressed the issue, until now.

Reekado shared during the interview that the decision to release the song was made by his management, despite his objections.

“Not the nicest, especially considering I didn’t want to put the music out. I urged my management not to, but they insisted,” he recalled.

According to Reekado, he and Wizkid recently buried the hatchet in a heartfelt meeting at his restaurant. The moment reportedly included a sincere apology from Wizkid, who admitted his reaction had been over the top. The conversation took an even more emotional turn as both artists bonded over a shared personal tragedy, the loss of their mothers. That common ground seemed to lay the foundation for a genuine reconciliation.

In a surprising revelation, Reekado also mentioned that Wizkid expressed regret over past public jabs at Don Jazzy, the respected music executive and founder of Mavin Records. Reekado, who rose to fame under Don Jazzy’s mentorship, indicated that the superstar’s remorse extended beyond just their own falling-out.

This could signal a broader shift in Wizkid’s approach to industry relationships, pointing to growth, maturity, and perhaps even new collaborations on the horizon.

Though no new collaboration has been officially announced, the repaired relationship has sparked speculation about whether a long-awaited track might surface, or even a fresh creative partnership.
