After over a decade of shaping the Afropop landscape, British-Nigerian singer and producer Maleek Berry has unveiled his long-awaited debut album, If Only Love Was Enough. Released on June 13, 2025, the 15-track project marks a return to his roots, blending 2000s R&B with contemporary Afropop influences.

In an exclusive interview with OkayAfrica, Berry shared his motivation behind the album:

“Good songs, great songwriting, great storytelling… Afrobeats fans are yearning for that right now. That’s why I had to go away and put together a collection of amazing songs that people can relate to for years to come.”

The album delves into themes of love, heartbreak, and personal growth, offering listeners a nostalgic yet fresh perspective on relationships.

If Only Love Was Enough features collaborations with artists like Ruger, Tiwa Savage, and Wizkid, showcasing Berry’s versatility and connections within the industry. The album’s production reflects a fusion of early 2000s Afrobeats with modern sensibilities, creating a timeless sound that resonates with both longtime fans and new listeners.

With the release of If Only Love Was Enough, Maleek Berry reaffirms his position as a key figure in the Afropop genre. Fans can expect more from Berry as he continues to evolve and contribute to the global music scene.
