In a revealing interview on Apple Music’s Africa Now Radio, Afrobeats star Kizz Daniel opened up about the emotional and technical setbacks that led to the creation of his newly released EP, Unkle K (Lemon Chase).

The 7-track EP, now making waves across the continent, is the result of a painful twist of fate, one that saw Kizz Daniel lose over 600 unreleased songs due to a devastating crash of his music workstation. Among those lost were completed records from his anticipated album, Unkle K.

“The EP came about as a result of a very unfortunate incident… My workstation crashed and we lost a lot of songs,” he revealed.

Originally, Unkle K was meant to be a full-length album accompanied by a tour. With the album already announced, Kizz Daniel found himself at a crossroads. Rather than cancel the rollout, he made a bold decision to return to the studio and rebuild the project from scratch—drawing sonic inspiration from the songs he had lost.

“I was supposed to go on tour with the album… so I went back to the studio and came up with some songs that sounded alike sonically,” he said.
“We came up with a name that fitted the situation—‘Lemon Chase!’ When life throws you lemons, you make lemonade out of it—and that’s exactly what we did with this EP.”

One of the most emotionally resonant tracks on the project is “Al Jannah,” a reflective tribute to loved ones lost. Featuring rapper Odumodublvck and street-pop standout Bella Shmurda, the song stands as a heartfelt ode to grief, healing, and remembrance.

“Al-Jannah means ‘paradise.’ We’ve lost people in the past—we lost our son in 2021; I lost my dad in 2015; my wife lost her mum in 2024; I lost my step-mum,” he shared.
“I wanted to make a song for everyone… our loved ones we have lost in this journey of life.”

Since its release, Unkle K (Lemon Chase) has earned praise from fans and critics alike for its emotional depth, musical originality, and refusal to compromise the authenticity of Afrobeats in pursuit of global trends. The EP is being celebrated as a reminder that the genre’s strength lies in its roots, resilience, and storytelling.

Kizz Daniel’s journey with this project is more than just a comeback—it’s a testament to artistic perseverance, a tribute to loss, and a celebration of creative rebirth.

Unkle K (Lemon Chase) is available on all major streaming platforms. Whether you’re a longtime fan or just discovering his music, this is a project that deserves a full listen—both for its sound and the story behind it.
