Ghanaian music sensation Camidoh recently opened up about why he transitioned from rap to singing, calling it a practical and creative turning point that shaped his meteoric rise in Afrobeats.
In a candid interview on Hitz FM’s, he revealed that the heavy demands of rap sparked the shift, and singing simply came more naturally.
“I had to be reading a lot… this bar is not strong… the bar is always being raised,” he explained.
He added that being an independent artist and having to juggle writing, production, promotion, and rap’s high standards added heavy pressure.
His 2021 hit blended smooth Afro-Pop melodies with R&B sensibilities,“Sugarcane” became a global sensation. The remix featuring King Promise, Mayorkun, and Darkoo sealed his international reach. The track climbed to No. 1 on Apple Music Nigeria and entered Billboard’s U.S. Afrobeats chart, showcasing the power of melodic appeal.
Camidoh’s shift from rap to singing wasn’t just about ease—it was a strategic artistic realignment. Singing unlocked his natural strengths, led to global success with Sugarcane, and allowed him to focus on what truly matters: connecting with audiences and rising on his own terms.
