Ghanaian-American alté and Afrobeats trailblazer Amaarae has confirmed the release date for her highly anticipated third studio album, Black Star, set to drop August 8, 2025, via Interscope and Golden Child Entertainment.

Following the global acclaim of Fountain Baby, Amaarae spent the past two years touring major festivals like Coachella, collaborating with artists such as Janelle Monáe, Rina Sawayama, and Childish Gambino, and teasing a new creative era.

In a recent press release accompanying the lead single “S.M.O.”, Amaarae explained her intention to evoke movement and sensuality. She cited influences from 1980s Ghanaian highlife pioneer Ata Kak, Detroit club bass, zouk melodies reminiscent of Magic System and Michael Jackson, and comparisons to disco icons like Donna Summer and Janet Jackson during her Control era.

Black Star is described as a “playful” album that blends Ghanaian highlife, baile funk, and dance music deeply rooted in Black cultural heritage. It’s co-produced by Amaarae, Kyu Steed, El Guincho, and Bnyx, with some international studio time in Brazil—underscoring a truly transcontinental sound.

Fans can expect a genre defying soundscapes, a heady mix of alté, Afropop, experimental sounds, high-energy dance tracks, and deeply sensual R&B. Curious for more? Keep an eye out for the next single drop—and get those dance shoes ready for August 8!
