Nigerian music icon 9ice has stirred the pot with a bold spiritual claim that the devil is the real force controlling the music industry.

On The Nancy Isime Show, the veteran singer called the devil the “choirmaster” behind many artists’ actions. According to 9ice, this dark influence explains why so many musicians fall into habits like smoking and other vices. He described the devil as “the most powerful angel,” stressing that his insights come from firsthand spiritual experiences, not just hearsay.

“The devil controls music. He’s the choirmaster. That’s why we do the things we do,” 9ice said.
“If you want to enter this industry, you must know what you’re stepping into. I’m talking from experience and spiritual knowledge.”

Host Nancy Isime pressed him about whether he’d faced spiritual battles during his career, and 9ice didn’t hesitate to share a harrowing experience when he was vomiting blood for six months without any medical diagnosis.

When asked how he protects himself, 9ice shared that he isn’t Christian or Muslim but identifies as a Babalawo, a traditional Yoruba priest, and practices Ifa, an indigenous African spiritual system.

“I was introduced to Ifa during that tough time. I wish I had discovered it earlier,” he admitted.
“People mocked Fela Kuti for his spiritual beliefs, but now I understand.”

9ice’s revelations provide insight into the spiritual challenges many artists may face behind the scenes in the music industry. His testimony also highlights the importance of traditional African spiritual practices like Ifa, which are often overlooked or misunderstood in modern society.

His warning to upcoming musicians to be spiritually prepared serves as a reminder of the invisible battles that can accompany fame and artistic success. Regardless of whether one takes his claims literally or symbolically, 9ice’s perspective encourages a broader dialogue about culture, spirituality, and the entertainment business.
