Atlanta hip hop star Gunna has officially released his much-anticipated album, The Last Wun, delivering a sprawling 25-track project packed with 5 high-profile collaborations. Among the featured artists are some of the biggest names in Afrobeats today, Nigerian superstars Asake, Wizkid, and Burna Boy.

The inclusion of Asake, Wizkid, and Burna Boy on The Last Wun reflects Gunna’s deepening connection to Afrobeats, a genre that has increasingly influenced his sound and artistic direction. This crossover isn’t new for the Atlanta rapper, who previously worked with gospel Afrobeats sensation Victor Thompson on the remix of his hit single “This Year (Blessings),” and featured on Sarz’s track “Happiness” alongside Asake.

Interestingly, while fans may have expected Afrobeats-infused sounds from these collaborations, Gunna steered the production towards hip hop for much of the album’s Nigerian features, Burna Boy joins Gunna on the track “wgtf,” delivering a verse over classic hip hop production rather than the Afrobeats style many anticipated.

Wizkid is featured on “forever be mine,” where he steps into rap for the first time on a Gunna record, proving his versatility beyond singing and Afrobeats. While, Asake also showcases his rap chops on “satisfaction,” blending smoothly with Gunna’s signature melodic flows.

This approach highlights the adaptability and genre-blending skills of these Nigerian artists, reinforcing their ability to transcend musical boundaries.

The Last Wun not only cements Gunna’s status as a key player in hip hop but also highlights the increasingly fluid musical dialogue between the U.S. and Nigerian music scenes. By blending hip hop production with features from some of Nigeria’s most versatile stars, Gunna showcases a bold creative vision that embraces cross-genre experimentation.

As the boundaries between Afrobeats and hip hop continue to blur, collaborations like these pave the way for even more exciting musical fusions and global opportunities.
