Adekunle Gold Launches ‘5 Star Care’: A Lifeline for Sickle Cell Warriors in Lagos

Nigerian music sensation Adekunle Gold has unveiled the ‘5 Star Care’ initiative. Launched on June 19, 2025, in commemoration of World Sickle Cell Day, this project aims to provide free health insurance to 1,000 Nigerians battling the condition. The initiative is a collaboration between the Adekunle Gold Foundation, Lagos State Health Scheme Management (LASHMA), Sickle Cell Management Initiatives (SAMI), and the Lagos State Ministry of Health.

Adekunle Gold, who has openly shared his personal journey with sickle cell anemia, expressed his commitment to improving the lives of those affected. “Every life deserves 5-star care,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of accessible healthcare for individuals living with the disease. The ‘5 Star Care’ initiative will offer beneficiaries access to routine medical care, emergency services, and long-term healthcare support, alleviating the financial burden often associated with managing sickle cell disease in Nigeria.

This initiative builds upon Adekunle Gold’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness and provide support for the sickle cell community. In 2024, he partnered with SAMI to host a medical outreach in Surulere, Lagos, benefiting over 250 patients. Additionally, the Adekunle Gold Foundation has previously provided medical aid to over 300 individuals and awarded scholarships to those living with sickle cell to pursue studies in music business.

The ‘5 Star Care’ initiative also includes a research collaboration with New York University (NYU) to study the impact of sickle cell disease on mental health and lifestyle. The research will explore how creative outlets like music and storytelling can serve as complementary support tools alongside medical care.
