Mayorkun Reveals How Davido Helped Secure His Sony Music Africa Deal

Nigerian singer Mayorkun has disclosed how his former label boss, Davido, played a pivotal role in facilitating his record deal with Sony Music Africa.

This revelation sheds light on the supportive relationship between the two artists, dispelling any rumors of discord following Mayorkun’s departure from Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) in 2021.

Mayorkun expressed his gratitude during an interview on 3Music TV.

The journey between Mayorkun and Davido began in 2016 when Mayorkun, then a banker, posted a video of himself playing the keyboard to Davido’s song “The Money” on Twitter. Impressed by his talent, Davido reached out, leading to Mayorkun’s signing with DMW. His debut single “Eleko” became an instant hit, propelling him into the spotlight .

Over the years, Mayorkun has released several successful projects, including his third studio album, Still The Mayor, which dropped on June 13, 2025. Despite parting ways with DMW, Mayorkun has maintained a positive relationship with Davido, crediting him for his continued success in the industry .
