Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Orezi has opened up about his hiatus from the music scene, attributing it to a decline in personal ambition and comfort with his success. In a candid interview on Hip TV’s Trending, the “Shoki” hitmaker admitted that his complacency led to a decrease in his drive, which in turn affected his consistency and growth in the industry.
He emphasized that competition fuels consistency, citing Afrobeats heavyweight Davido as an example of how relentless work ethic sustains success.
Orezi’s return to the music scene has been marked by a series of strategic moves. In October 2023, he released a nine-track EP titled Chocolate Daddy, which blends themes of love, pleasure, and desire, celebrating the invaluable contributions of women to society. The EP features collaborations with artists like Tekno, Sheebah, and Daphne, showcasing his versatility and commitment to his craft.
Further solidifying his comeback, Orezi teamed up with South African artist PCEE for a remix of his hit single “I Swear,” blending Nigerian and South African sounds. The official video, shot in South Africa, has been well-received, amplifying the track’s reach across various platforms.
Looking ahead, Orezi has announced plans to release a new album later this year. Before that, he intends to keep fans engaged with a steady stream of singles, ensuring that 2025 is the year he reclaims his rightful place at the top of the Afrobeats scene.
Orezi’s journey serves as a reminder of the importance of ambition and consistency in the ever-evolving music industry. His return is not just a personal comeback but a testament to the resilience and determination required to stay relevant in the competitive world of Afrobeats.
