Lungelihle Zwane, widely known as Uncle Waffles, has emerged as a powerful force in the world of Amapiano music, but her journey to stardom was anything but typical. Born on March 30, 2000, in Eswatini, Uncle Waffles grew up in a world steeped in the infectious sounds of South African house music, which would later shape her career.

Her musical journey began in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown, a period when she honed her DJing skills. But it was a viral video in October 2021, showcasing her dynamic performance in Soweto, that catapulted her into the spotlight. The clip quickly gained traction, introducing her to a global audience. Soon after, her debut track “Tanzania” became a hit, and her first EP, Red Dragon, solidified her place in the music scene.

Uncle Waffles, now affectionately known as the “Princess of Amapiano,” has performed on international stages, including the prestigious Wireless Festival in London, where she made history as the first and only Amapiano act to perform there.

In a revealing interview for Rolling Stone Africa’s February digital cover, Uncle Waffles reflected on her meteoric rise, sharing insights into her creative process and future ambitions. Beyond music, she also has plans to explore fashion, hinting at a career that may extend far beyond the turntables.

Fans can look forward to seeing her headline the Piano People stage at Afro Nation 2025, marking yet another milestone in her rapidly growing career. With an ever-expanding fanbase and an eye toward future creative projects, Uncle Waffles is proving that she is much more than just a DJ—she’s a cultural icon in the making.
