The stage is set for an exciting 2025 Headies Awards as Nigerian superstar Rema leads the nominations with 9 nominatiosn. Known for his massive hits, including the record-breaking “Calm Down,” Rema has earned recognition in major categories, including Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Best Producer for his work on “Hehehe.” His music video for “Charm,” which he co-directed, also earned him a nomination for Best Video Director, showcasing his versatility in both music and visual artistry.
Following closely behind Rema is his label mate, Ayra Starr, with 8 nominations. Her single “Last Heartbreak Song” earned multiple nods, including Record of the Year, Best Female Vocal Performance, and Best R&B Song. Ayra is also in the running for Artist of the Year and Best Album, further solidifying her position as one of the top stars in the Afrobeat scene.
Rapper Odumodublvck also had a breakout year, securing 8 nominations for his chart-topping hits, including Best Rap Song and Best Collaboration for “Blood On The Dancefloor.” He is also nominated for the Next Rated award alongside other rising stars like Shallipopi, Qing Madi, and Nasboi.
Other notable nominees include Kizz Daniel, who earned 7 nominations, including a nod for Song of the Year for his hit “Showa.” Asake, Tems, and Shallipopi also saw significant recognition, each receiving 6 nominations, with Asake’s “Lonely At The Top” and Tems’ “Burning” both competing in the Song of the Year category.
The late Mohbad continues to make waves posthumously, securing 5 nominations, including Collaboration of the Year for his track “Egwu” with Chike. His legacy remains influential in the industry, further highlighting his impact on Afrobeat music.
